NEW DRIL JRP PROEJCT-XANANLEEY, DHUUSAMAREB, GALMUDUG STATE SOMALIA

The JRP project will primarily target health centres, nutrition facilities, education centres and rural livelihood activities. Through improved basic infrastructure and support services, the project will contribute to creating safer and more functional facilities where children, women and vulnerable community members can access essential services.

Project Overview

Xananleey is one of the priority sites targeted under the Joint Resilience Project (JRP) in Galmudug State. The project is supported by KfW and UNICEF in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources (MoEWR), Galmudug State, with the objective of strengthening access to essential basic services and improving the resilience of vulnerable communities.

The Xananleey community and surrounding rural settlements face challenges in accessing essential social services and maintaining sustainable livelihoods. Limited availability of basic services, combined with recurrent drought and socioeconomic vulnerability, affects the wellbeing of households and particularly vulnerable groups, including children and women.

The JRP intervention in Xananleey therefore seeks to address priority community needs through an integrated approach focusing on health, nutrition, education and rural livelihoods. The project recognizes that access to these services is fundamental to improving household wellbeing, human capital and the resilience of communities to recurrent shocks.

The JRP Xananleey Site Project is designed to strengthen essential community services and support resilient rural livelihoods in Xananleey and its surrounding communities.

The project will focus on supporting health, nutrition and education centres, while also promoting opportunities for rural livelihoods. These interventions are intended to improve the availability and functionality of essential services and contribute to better living conditions for vulnerable households.

The project will promote an integrated approach in which improved social services and strengthened livelihood opportunities reinforce each other. Improved access to health and nutrition services can contribute to healthier households, while improved education opportunities can strengthen the development of children and young people. At the same time, support for rural livelihoods can enhance household income, food security and the ability of communities to cope with drought and other socioeconomic pressures.
